Campo Grande is the southern gateway to the Pantanal, home of caimans and anacondas, only 200 km away.

It is the capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and, with a population of around 700,000, one of the smaller capitals. There are no real highlights in the city itself, however, it is an important stopover for passengers heading to the Pantanal or the small ecoresort Bonito.

Campo Grande is a modern city with an international airport (daily connections to Sao Paulo, Rio, Cuiabá and Brasilia), good hotels and excellent restaurants.
