Porto de Galinhas Porto de Galinhas (Port of Chickens), got its name as a result of the slave trade which secretly continued after abolition. On hearing that the chickens from Angola had arrived, the masters of Recife knew to expect another load of slaves. Despite its sad past, the little town is a very happy place today, with lots of bars and restaurants to enjoy on the beach. Surrounded by reefs and coral rocks, Porto
de Galinhas' beaches have clear crystal waters full of fishes and small
sea animals, making it an ideal pace for snorkling and diving.
